INTERIORITY AND EDUCATION:
by Tobin Hart, Ph.D.
Professor of Psychology
University of West Georgia

Who We Are
Founded in 2002 by Ulco Visser, The IMPACT Foundation draws on contemplative practices from across traditions, and works to design and promote learning programs that are relevant and applicable to the modern world.

Our goal is to reintroduce contemplation into the mainstream, through the thoughtful integration of wisdom traditions and scientific rigor. To this end, our programs currently target three critical sectors and levers for change:

  • Education – engage the emotional development of teachers and students

  • Business – support the inner life and productivity of leaders and managers

  • Health care – ensure the wellness of physicians, nurses, and caregivers

Based out of Denver, Colorado, The IMPACT Foundation works with an ever-expanding range of institutions, scientists, and contemplative leaders around the world. All of our collaborators share a commitment for exploring the links between mind-body wellness, emotional health, and personal performance.

What We Do
The IMPACT Foundation supports and helps design innovative impact-driven programs that highlight the relevance and viability of contemplative practices as applied to the fields of education, business, and health care. We currently sponsor and oversee the following wide-range of programs:

Teaching Curriculum
Stress Management and Relaxation Techniques in Education (SMART) is an accredited curriculum for teachers sponsored by IMPACT. The program teaches a range of proven techniques that support concentration, insight, empathy, and emotional awareness. Teachers report that their attendance in the program has had a positive influence in their classrooms. Participants report more positive interactions with students and coworkers as a result of participating in the class. More info.

Dialogue Series
Landscape of Research - Engages research scientists, contemplative leaders, students, and the public in forums that explore and link mind/body research with contemplative traditions. These events are hosted by IMPACT in partnership with major universities across North America including UC Berkeley, MIT, and University of Wisconsin.

Targeted Grant-Making
Scientific Research and Program Support - In addition to the above programs, IMPACT funds a limited portfolio of related projects aligned with its mission of building and advancing the field of applied contemplative practice. Inquiries are accepted on an invitation-only basis.
